Typical Radiant Cut (Modified Barion Cut)
This improvement on the Barion cut by Henry Grossbard was invented in 1977. It combines the best features of the Round Brilliant and Princess while maintaining the elegance of the Emerald cut. The typical radiant is rectangular with a length-to-width ratio of around 1.36:1.
Many people have been lead to believe that a Radiant cut is just a rectangular Princess cut with the corners removed to prevent chipping. To this, the inventor has replied, “Nothing could be further from the truth, cutting off the corners of a princess results in a Princess with cut corners, not a true Radiant Cut.”[…] “A primary difference between these two cuts involves the completely different way that they reflect light. Radiant Cuts have a circular life resulting from the hybrid nature of the cut. This unique cutting style allows light to enter the diamond from many angles, giving it the ability to reflect light in numerous ways within the diamond.”
Like the Princess, color and clarity cannot be disguised as well with a well-proportioned cut. A color grade of J and clarity grade of SI2 may be discernable by the naked eye.
Good Polish and Symmetry are recommended.
