Pear Shaped Diamond Cut

Pear Cut (Modified Brilliant Cut)
A pear shape diamond is a combination of an Oval cut and a Marquise cut. This shape is more popular in jewelry like necklaces and drop earrings. This diamond will look a little smaller in size than a Cushion cut. As with other brilliants, proportions are most important in this cut. Shallow ovals can make the cut look too large. A shadow in the form of a bow-tie is also considered part of the beauty of this unique shape. Many jewelers make the mistake of trying to select a diamond that doesn’t display the bow-tie. This shape will typically have a very deep pavilion which gives the diamond a slightly darker appearance within the table. Length should be more than twice the width with a length-to-width ratio of around 1.62:1. The symmetry of a pear cut diamond is vital as it ensures the light is evenly refracted or dispersed, especially in the point or cutlet.
Diamond cutters and gemologists agree on a depth percentage between 58-65.4% as it delivers the greatest balance of fire and brilliance while exhibiting only a small bow-tie effect. Depths under 58% usually produce larger bow-ties due to reduced pavilion angles while depths over 65.4% usually contain smaller bow-ties but appear darker and smaller, overall.
